When life gives you lemons..

...make lemonade!!

So recently I was looking for a way in which I could further my career and gain more experience in the childcare and education fields. I was offered a volunteering position with the association Community Living South. After running a program that I created for the youth with Autism, I was blessed with yet another opportunity. Community Living South wanted me to facilitate their Friday Night Group. This group consists of high functioning youth/young adults who also have Autism. After months of looking for a second job in my fields and looking for opportunities, it has FINALLY happened for me. Last Friday was the first of eight sessions that I will be running on Friday nights for these youth/young adults.

Needless to say, when you begin a new adventure, whether you're going on a trip, moving to a new house or a new country, or in my case, starting a brand new program for a huge organization like Community Living South, you get cold feet to say the least. The night before the program I couldn't sleep. I was excited, nervous and anxious to get this program underway. The whole day Friday, classes and all, there was only one thing that I could keep thinking about. The Friday Night Group that I would be facilitating.

I took the bus to the site, walked into the room not knowing what to expect when I entered that door. I was welcomed by some of the most beautiful, wonderful and energetic individuals I have ever met. So full of life, so ambitious and so much like you and I.

My first session went beautifully.

I feel so blessed and so fortunate to be given this opportunity and I cannot wait to blog more about my adventures with these ten beautiful youth/young adults and the growth I experience as an individual while running this new program. - Xo
