Social Experiment: Having breakfast alone.

One of my fears in society was to go to a restaurant and eat alone. The way in which people stare and whisper is enough to deter anyone from eating alone.

I decided that one Saturday morning, since I was early for tutoring, that I would go grab some breakfast. There was the options of Cora's or McDonald's. I chose the 'healthier' option of the two. As I got out of my car and walked closet towards the entrance of Cora's, my heart began to beat a little faster and I had this anxiety in the pit of my stomach. Why is it that we feel so uncomfortable being alone? Especially to be in a public place, like a restaurant alone. It's hard enough to be alone in general but eating alone is combining two fears that are big enough on their own.

I walked into Cora's and ask for a table for one. It felt like all alarms were going off in my head and around me. *Ding Ding Ding...table for one!!* The host walked me over to my table for one and I took a seat. I got the stares, as I expected. My favourite was the whispers in Hindi (you see, although I came to Canada when I was very young, I can still understand the language. That's as Indian as I get but that's another story). It boggled my mind that people were so concerned with me having breakfast alone (You should have seen the lady's face when I responded to her whisper in English.) I enjoyed my breakfast thoroughly.

Let's go back to the aspect of being alone. Ever since I was introduced to The Daily Love blog, I've always embraced and promoted the idea of being "Self Approved". Mastin Kipp (The Creator of The Daily Love) promotes this concept in The Daily Love and is constantly encouraging the readers to embrace this concept. The concept is quite simply emphasizing that as an individual, it's important to ensure you are confident in yourself and approve the choices you make; regardless of what other people or society approves. Being self approved means you are comfortable enough with yourself to do what makes you the happiest.

By choosing to have breakfast alone, I chose to be self approved and do what I wanted. Regardless of what everyone else would think. Studies also show (insert study here), if you can have breakfast alone, that's when you're the most comfortable with yourself. Well then!
