Tis the season...
We live in a society which is extremely privileged, even with a dreadful economy. While thousands are in the malls all over this country trying to get their Christmas shopping done for the season, there are thousands more on the streets, hungry, scared and lonely.

As much as I love giving and receiving gifts, this season always breaks my heart to see people do without. Or even thinking about it.

I come from a family in which, there has always been enough. More than enough. We have traditions in place and we've had these traditions ever since I was a tiny little girl. But growing up through the years, I truly came to realize how blessed I am. How blessed my family is. We've always exchanged presents on Christmas Eve, after our big Christmas Eve meal and of course after church.

I've always known that there are people who don't have as much as I do and I've always been aware that there aren't enough resources for every single individual who is less fortunate but last year something clicked.

I began what I called the EFFORT fundraiser. I would use my social networking tools to raise food donations for one of the main food banks in Toronto. My idea was that if ONE person that I knew on Facebook or Twitter donated ONE canned food item or non-perishable food item, then I could raise over 500 pieces. (Given that everyone could reach me or had the heart to give.)

Last year was such a beautiful success! I raised over 1000 items which were all donated. To know that I could do that, with everyone's help, it made me feel so good. Not to do the good deed itself but to know that difference and impact like that can be made.

To know that my social networking, friends and family all donated so that families all over this city could have food on their table and their children could be fed and happy.

The EFFORT fundraiser is now an annual fundraiser. I asked all of you to help me out again this year. EFFORT ends Wednesday December 21st, 2011!

Contact me via Facebook, Twitter, Text, BBM, Call me to donate.

I really hope we can out do last year and make some Toronto families in need very happy this year.

How do you give back? -
Xo
